The subject of nutrition always arises whenever I discuss wellness with my clients. As with human health, the key to wellness is a balanced diet, appropriate to the needs of your dog. Things to consider when choosing a diet include: breed, life-stage, activity level, and any other special considerations (allergies, underlying conditions). Other things to consider include the reputability of the pet food company themselves. Have they had any recalls? Does the company provide a complete chemical analysis of the food, and do they conduct feeding trials? Too, raw food, although more of a controversial option, is another choice for clients, but involves proper preparation and consideration (ie. the need to supplement minerals/vitamins).
